A head-on crash claimed the lives of to Gage County women Saturday afternoon. Wilma and Audree Benash were heading south on Nebraska Highway 50 when Christopher Halvorsen crossed the center line in his pickup truck. While both women were wearing seatbelts, officials say the accident simply wasn't survivable for anyone in the front seat.

Two passengers in the car, Wilma's husband, Dennis Benash, 50, of Filley, and his brother, Mark Benash, 42, of Plymouth, both riding in the back seat of the car, were taken to BryanLGH Medical Center West in Lincoln. Dennis Benash was listed in critical condition and Mark Benash was listed in serious condition Tuesday morning.

The highway was closed to both lanes of traffic for about 10 hours, Holland said, so the Nebraska State Patrol and the Otoe County Sheriff's Office could conduct the accident investigation.
